Provida bench calls candidates to remember that without children Colombia has no future

The parliamentarians of Colombia called the presidential candidates to include in their agendas the promotion and protection of life in all its stages, especially encouraging the birth of more children to be able to guarantee the future of the country.

The Provida bench made this call after concluding the Convention Provida 2025, which on September 17 and 18 took place in the Luis Guillermo Vélez Auditorium of Congress with the slogan “Save Colombia, have children.”

“Our motto ‘saves Colombia, have children’ is not a simple slogan, but a deep call to recognize that without children there is no future,” said the bench caused in a statement.

In the text, he pointed out that its members are aware of “of the challenges in health, education, nutrition and housing, and that is why during these three years we have worked presenting projects not only to defend the value of life, but also to help overcome this”.

“That is why we insist that this should be a central issue on the agenda of Congress and the future government and all the presidential candidates that today speak to the country,” he said.

The event was also attended by leaders of Provida organizations, as well as academics who approached the challenge of demographic winter, a phenomenon that already begins to affect Colombia due to the lower number of births that are recorded.

The National Statistics Administrative Department (DANE) reported a few months ago that In 2024 There were 445,000 births, 13.7% less than in 2023 and 32.7% compared to 2015.

For its part, in February the abortion clinics network Profamilia said that in the last three years more than 150,000 women accessed abortion in Colombia and that in 2024 were “more than 56,000”.

In that sense, the Provida bench denounced that the demographic decrease is also a consequence of “an anti-family culture that, with ideologies contrary to life, has weakened the value of children and family as the basis of society.”

“From the language itself we must begin to transform this reality and return to motherhood, to paternity and the family that corresponds to them,” he said.

Therefore, the parliamentarians expressed, “these days of reflection have shown that the country longs to assess the essential: life, family and hope that children represent, who are the greatest treasure and the greatest wealth of our homeland.”

The Provida bench expressed its satisfaction because the convention had “both echo in Colombian society, and we hope this is the way to stop stigmatizing the opening to life and recognition of the value of the family as a fundamental pillar of society.”

“We believe that the future of new generations cannot be denied, and that is why we insist that the strengthening of families must be a national priority,” he said.

“The majority of Colombians are willing to defend life and family, and recognize in the children an invaluable treasure. We are invited to not shut up anymore, to raise their voice and to continue defending these ideas,” they encouraged the parliamentarians.
