Program of Pope Francis’ trip to Asia and Oceania from September 2 to 13

This Friday, July 5, the Press Office of the Holy See published the program of Pope Francis’ Apostolic Journey to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Singapore from September 2 to 13 of this year.

Indonesia, from September 2 to 5

The Holy Father will leave Rome on Monday, September 2 at 5:15 p.m. (local time) for Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.

After a long journey, it is scheduled to land on Tuesday the 3rd at Jakarta International Airport “Soekarno-Hatta” at 11:30 am.

At 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday the 4th, the welcome ceremony will take place outside the Presidential Palace “Istana Merdeka”. Later, he will pay a courtesy visit to President Joko Widodo.

He will also meet with authorities, civil society and the diplomatic corps in the “Istana Negara” Presidential Palace Room, where he will deliver his first speech.

Later, at 11:30 a.m. he will hold a private meeting with the members of the Society of Jesus at the Apostolic Nunciature.

At 4:30 p.m., the Holy Father will meet with the bishops, priests, deacons, consecrated persons, seminarians and catechists in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, from where he will read his second speech. Finally, he will have a meeting with the young people of Scholas Occurrentes at the “Grha Pemuda” Youth House.

On Thursday, September 5 at 9:00 a.m. he will participate in an interreligious meeting at the “Istiqlal” mosque and will also give a speech.

Likewise, he will meet with people assisted by charitable organizations, at the headquarters of the Indonesian Episcopal Conference, at 10:15 a.m.

Finally, he will preside over the Holy Mass at the “Gelora Bung Karno” stadium.

Papua Guinea, September 6-8

The second stop on the longest trip of his Pontificate will be in Papua Guinea. The Holy Father will arrive at 6:50 p.m. on Friday, September 6, in Port Moresby, capital of Papua Guinea, where there will be a welcome ceremony.

The next day, the Pontiff will meet with the Governor General, Robert Dadae, at the Government House, at 9:45 a.m.

At the end, Pope Francis will have the traditional meeting with the authorities, civil society and the diplomatic corps at the “APEC Haus” conference center, where he will give his speech.

In the afternoon, at 5:00 p.m., you will visit the children of “Street Ministry” and “Callan Services” at the Caritas technical secondary school.

East Timor, September 9-10

Pope Francis will arrive at the “Presidente Nicolau Lobato” International Airport in Dili, the capital of East Timor, at 2:10 p.m.

The welcome ceremony is scheduled outside the Presidential Palace and at 6:30 p.m. Afterwards, a courtesy visit will be made to the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta.

At 10:45 a.m. he will meet with the members of the Society of Jesus in the Apostolic Nunciature privately and in the afternoon, at 4:30 p.m. he will preside over the Holy Mass on the esplanade of Trinity.

Singapore, September 10-12

On September 10 he will have a meeting with the young people at a convention center at 9:30 a.m. and immediately afterward he will have the farewell ceremony at the Dili “Presidente Nicolau Lobato” International Airport.

It will leave for Singapore at 11:15 am. It is expected to arrive at Singapore Changi International Airport at 2:15 p.m. Later, he will meet with members of the Society of Jesus at the San Francisco Javier retreat center.

On Thursday, September 12, the welcome ceremony will take place at Parliament House at 9:00 a.m. and will then visit the President of the Republic, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and meet with the Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong.

At 10:30 a.m. he will meet with the authorities, civil society and the diplomatic corps in the theater of the University Cultural Center of the National University of Singapore.

Finally, he will celebrate Holy Mass at 5:15 p.m. at the “SportsHub” national stadium.

Friday the 13th, his last day in Singapore, will begin at 9:15 a.m. with a visit to a group of elderly and sick people at Casa Santa Teresa.

At 10:00 a.m. he will have an interreligious meeting with young people at the Catholic Junior College and will give a speech there.

At 11:20 a.m. the farewell ceremony will take place at Singapore International Airport “Changi” and take off for Rome at 11:50 a.m. The Pope’s plane is scheduled to land in Rome at 6:25 p.m. on September 13.
