The short film presents a couple facing financial difficulties, while the protagonist, pregnant and recently grieving the loss of her mother, is torn between the temptation of having an abortion or continuing with her pregnancy.
However, when she comes across a photograph of her pregnant mother, she feels motivated to seek answers in the Basilica of Our Lady of Luján.
In statements to ACI Prensa, Mariano Ramos, screenwriter and director of the short film, indicated that the central message of “Peregrina” is to show “the permanent closeness of the Virgin Mary at our side.”
“In moments of loneliness, discouragement or hopelessness, Mary, the mother of Jesus, embraces us with her maternal love. The Rosary represents the bond that unites us to her, the umbilical cord that connects us to her immaculate heart and allows us to vibrate to the rhythm of her divine love,” he explained.
According to Ramos, the public’s reception so far has been “surprising”, since not only have they achieved a large number of organic views, but they have “received moving testimonies that reflect the deep connection that the short film has generated.”
“We invite the public to take the time to watch ‘Peregrina’ because it offers a central scene of great spiritual clarity. In this short film, Jesus’ parents are the protagonists of an encounter that is both human and divine, an experience that can resonate with each of us if we are willing to open our hearts to the grace of Mary,” added the director. .
The inspiration of “Peregrina” and its pro-life message
Ramos said that the inspiration behind this short film arose from the teachings of P. Carlos Spahnrespected Argentine priest whose homilies have left a significant mark on his life.
“From that base, I was weaving the necessary elements to give life to a short story but loaded with divine content, set in the contemporary context and with a young protagonist facing a complex situation,” he explained.
Omar Vázquez, partner of the production company and founder of Proyecto Jeremías (an initiative that promotes the development of Christian entrepreneurs), explained to ACI Prensa that in “Peregrina”, they sought to unite two themes of great importance: devotion to the Virgin Mary and the figure of San José as an example of paternity and protection.
“In addition, we have incorporated a clear message against abortion, but from a perspective of love and compassion, avoiding confrontation and opting for sensitivity and empathy. We believe that it is possible to address controversial issues in a respectful and constructive manner, inviting reflection and sincere dialogue,” she said.
The mission of Apóstol Producer
According to Vázquez, Apóstol Producer’s mission is to create audiovisual content that not only reflects the values and teachings of the Catholic faith, but is also relevant and accessible to a wide and diverse audience.
“We face the challenge of achieving self-sustainability, something common among Catholic entrepreneurs, but we are convinced that, by generating products that impact and add value, we will be able to continue producing meaningful content for free for everyone to access, with the help of the voluntary contributors and later with the help of sponsors, since this type of production has a high cost to carry it out,” he explained.
