The priest Jesús F. Marcoleta, of the Cuban parish of Varadero, said that although the Church celebrates with joy the resurrection of Jesus, unfortunately the Cuban people “continue there living a via crucis” with “decades of tears and sufferings.”
Fr. Marcoleta, from the province of Matanzas, recalled in his homily of the Easter of Resurrection that God sent his son Jesus “‘so that everyone who creates in him has eternal life’, which is the only full life, the only one truly in abundance.”

“Today his glory and his mercy triumph. And although people and realities insist on guiding us towards the sepulcher, Easter is the triumph of truth, life and love. The tomb is no longer a place, it is no longer a place for the encounter of the dark and cold. Dead Christ does not need balms, Christ living is a new aroma, fragrance, unique perfume, sun and flower in the very heart of the world,” he said.
However, he pointed out that Easter also needs men and women so that peace can defeat violence and forgiveness overcome revenge. “They need solidarity and hope for us to prevail over selfishness, injustice, disenchantment and depression.”
This is because “while here and now we celebrate with joy the joy and hope that Easter bring, the people, our people are still there living a via Crucis, still dying on their Good Friday. They are decades of tears and undeserved sufferings.”
“Out there, in the tired veins of our people, dragged to the periphery, vulnerability and oblivion, a lot of hate and much violence has accumulated,” he said.
Fr. Marcoleta said that in Cuba parents “have no how to feed their children” and the children “do not find how to medicate their old people.” In addition, workers “do not know when they can have in their hands the salary that belongs to them.”
While “they do not support a more empty and triumphant speech, the Cup of hopelessness, loneliness, sadness and death is filled. It is ugly flow.
However, the priest recalled that “not a new sepulcher could with the push of freedom and life” that brings the Easter of Christ.
Therefore, he asked that the Holy Spirit never stop encouraging Cubans towards life and “out of us authentic cultivators of new Easter.”
