President of 40 Days for Life: 75% of women with abortion appointments give up when there are people praying

Shawn Carney, president of 40 Days for Life, stated that according to information provided by former Planned Parenthood workers, 75% of women with abortion appointments do not show up “when we are outside praying.”

40 Days for Life is an initiative that was born in the United States with the objective of praying in front of abortion centers and offering counseling and alternatives to women who, for various reasons, plan to abort their children.

It is currently present in more than 60 countries and carries out two prayer campaigns every year. The second of 2024 ended on November 3.

In statements to The Daily SignalCarney highlighted the importance of these campaigns, as they also help change hearts and minds. He indicated that one of the achievements is that former abortion clinic workers end up joining 40 Days for Life.

These people, she noted, have told them that many women decide to “not show up” to abortion appointments when pro-life volunteers are praying outside abortion clinics.

“Many of them don’t show up for their appointments, according to Planned Parenthood workers who have left,” Carney told The Daily Signal. “They say that, according to Planned Parenthood’s internal number, the ‘no-show’ rate for abortions increases by 75% when we are outside praying,” she said.

Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider internationally.

In the interview broadcast on November 21, Carney also criticized the Democratic Party, whose members “are turning abortion into a sacrament and don’t want any regulation.

“That’s why we see the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) doing things it would never have done before the repeal of Roe vs. Wade”, he noted.

Among the latest decisions by the FDA is allowing retail pharmacies to offer abortion pills and these can be sent to women by mail.

For his part, Michael New, main coordinator of 40 Days for Life in Washington DC, pointed out that “building a culture of life is not a 40-day-a-year activity; It is a year-round activity.”

In that sense, he assured that the participants “left motivated to intensify their efforts to prevent abortion and offer meaningful and life-affirming alternatives to women, families and children.”
