The Holy Father considered “significant steps forward” the Peace Plan for the Gaza Strip presented on Monday by the US president, Donald Trump, together with Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and encouraged the political leaders to persevere in the efforts for the high fire.
It is expected that both the delegation of Hamas, such as Qatar, the United States and Egypt – mediators – arrive at Cairo this Monday to address the dialogue prior to conversations between the true involved.
In addition to referring to the recent advances in peace negotiations in the Middle East and showing “deeply hurt by the immense suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza,” the Pontiff also claimed the liberation of Israeli hostages that continue in the hands of the Hamas terrorist organization.
Earthquake in the Philippines
Likewise, the Holy Father expressed his proximity to the people of the Philippines, after the strong earthquake that occurred on Saturday night in the central region of the country, especially in the province of Cebu and the surrounding areas.
“I express my closeness to the beloved Filipino people. I pray especially for those who have been more hard affected by the consequences of the earthquake. We remain united and supportive in the confidence in God and in the intercession of his mother in all danger,” said the Pope.
Leo XIV previously celebrated a Mass for the jubilee dedicated to migrants and missionaries. During the Mariano prayer he recalled that “the Church is every missionary and it is a great people on the way to the kingdom of God.”
“No one should be forced to flee”
In the context of the October missionary month, the Pontiff stressed that migrants and missionaries are a visible sign of this universal vocation, but firmly warned that “no one must be forced to flee, or exploited or mistreated by their condition of needy or foreign.”
“In the first place, always, human dignity,” said the Pope, inviting the entire Christian community to look with respect, reception and justice to those who are forced to abandon their land.
The Pope greeted the pilgrims present in the Plaza de San Pedro, with a particular greeting to the faithful of the diocese of Pavia, accompanied by his bishop, and a group of young people from Bethlehem who brought with him an image of the Virgin of Revelation.
Rosario for Peace
Finally, the Holy Father recalled the traditional supplication of the Virgen del Santo Rosario that is celebrated in the Sanctuary of Pompeya and recalled his request to pray the Rosary during this month of October for Peace: “Contemplating with Mary the mysteries of Christ the Savior, we intensify our prayer for peace, a prayer that is made concrete solidarity with the peoples martyred by the war”.
“Thanks to the so many children who throughout the world have promised to pray the Rosary for this intention. Thank you from the heart,” he concluded.
