Pope Leo XIV receives the prime minister of Lebanon before his apostolic trip

This October 25, Pope Leo XIV received Nawaf Salam, Prime Minister of Lebanon, in audience; together with Trek Mitri, deputy prime minister.

Both Lebanese officials, after the audience with Pope Leo, met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, and with Bishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

“During the cordial conversations held at the Secretariat of State, the good bilateral relations were highlighted with satisfaction and the common expectation was expressed for the apostolic trip of the Holy Father Leo XIV to Lebanon, from November 30 to December 2, 2025,” the Holy See reported.

“Next, the meeting confirmed the hopes placed by the Lebanese people in the process of reforms and stabilization of the country and was expanded to the regional context, with the shared desire that full pacification be achieved soon throughout the Levant,” he added.

In what will be the first apostolic journey of his pontificatePope Leo will visit Türkiye and Lebanon at the end of November and beginning of December. In Türkiye, he will make a pilgrimage to İznik (ancient Nicaea) on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea (325 AD).

This First Ecumenical Council is one of the fundamental milestones in the history of Christianity, since it defined the consubstantiality of the Son with the Father and gave rise to the Creed that Christians still recite today throughout the world.
