Pope Leo XIV receives the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro

Pope Leo XIV has received this Friday, September 19 at the Apostolic Palace to the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro.

As reported by the Vatican Press Office, after the meeting with the Holy Father, the Central American president met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, who was accompanied by Mons. Paul Gallagher, secretary for relations with states and international organizations.

During the conversation in the Secretary of State, “reference was made to the good relations between Honduras and the Holy See” and the role “of the Church and the State in the social, educational and attention to migrants’ care was addressed,” says the Holy See.

In addition, “other issues of common interest were discussed on the sociopolitical news of the country and the region.”

The Catholic Church in Honduras is structured with two metropolitan headquarters, the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula, on which another nine suffragan dioceses depend.

Last August, thousands of citizens participated in the “Prayer Walk for Honduras”, convened by the Catholic Church and evangelical fellowship with a view to the elections that will take place on November 30.

In June, the Episcopal Conference of Honduras warned in a message its concern about the “polarization in which the environment that leads us to the elections” is inserted, while denouncing a “tension attached to the various actors of the contestant political parties.”
