After the hearing with the Holy Father, the president met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Vatican, and Mons. Paul Richard Gallagher, secretary for relations with states and international organizations.

The meeting in the Secretary of State was the occasion to highlight the good relations between the Holy See and Zimbabue, and it was also an opportunity to address aspects of the country’s political and socioeconomic situation.
In that context, they emphasized the presence and collaboration of the local Catholic Church in areas such as education and health.
They also maintained an exchange of opinions of a regional nature, with emphasis on the need to promote multilateralism, dialogue and cooperation between nations.
The 81 -year -old African president was news at the end of 2024 for signing the implementation of the Death Penalty Abolition Law in the country, switching the penalty to about 60 people who were sentenced to death.
On May 3, during the vacant headquarters period, Zimbabue, General Constantino Guveya Dominic Nyikadzino Chiwenga visited the Vatican, who was received by Mons. Gallagher, whose position did not cease at that stage.
