Pope Leo XIV showed his proximity to those affected by the passage of typhoon Danas, who hit the southwest region of Taiwan on Sunday.
According to local authorities, the Typhoon’s passage has left at least two fatalities, more than 300 injured and hundreds of displaced people, as well as significant damage to infrastructure and crops, according to local authorities. The most affected regions are Tainan, Chiayi, Yunlin and Kaohsiung.

The director of the press office of the Holy See, Matteo Bruni, told accredited journalists that the Holy Father “has been informed of the victims and the damage caused by typhoon Danas in Taiwan” and “says by those who have been affected.”
Moved by the suffering of the population, the Pontiff has asked the apostolic alms, the body responsible for exercising the charity of the Pope, to send “concrete help to the affected population.”
As is normally done in other crises, this help to alleviate the emergency will be channeled in collaboration with the local church in Taiwan. The Vatican has not expressed whether it is material aid or an economic sum, but in any case it will serve to respond to the most urgent needs, such as the supply of food, drinking water, temporary accommodation and medical assistance.
