Pope Leo XIV accepted the resignation of Mons. Luis Artemio Flores Calzada, 76, to the pastoral government of the Diocese of Tepic, Nayarit (Mexico), and appointed as his successor Mons. Engelberto Polino Sánchez, until now auxiliary bishop of Guadalajara, Jalisco.
The appointment was communicated on August 28 by the press office of the Holy See and the Apostolic Nunciature in Mexico, through a message of the Mexican Episcopate Conference (CEM).

The CEM expressed its gratitude for “the Episcopal Ministry performed by Mons. Luis Artemio in the Diocese of Tepic”, while expressed the “joy and prayer” of the Mexican bishops for the designation of Mons. Polino Sánchez, “to whom we want a fruitful performance in the new episcopal encomienda that the Lord has entrusted to him.”

Who is the new bishop of Tepic?
According to the biographical data published by the CEM and the press office of the Holy See, Mons. Engelberto Polino Sánchez, 59, was born on March 14, 1966 in Teuchitlán, in the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Guadalajara.
He formed in the Diocesan Seminary of Mr. San José, of the Archdiocese of Guadalajara, and was ordered priest on June 1, 1997.
He has a diploma in the Social Pastoral by the Theological-Pastoral Institute for Latin America (ITEPAL) of the Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Council (CELAM), completed in Bogotá (Colombia) in 1998.
It was also formed at the Mexican Institute of Christian Social Doctrine (IMDOSOC), in Mexico City.
On February 2, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Guadalajara.
