Pope Leo XIV laments at the general audience the fatigue of living that current society suffers

During the general hearing on Wednesday, Pope Leo XIV addressed “the fatigue of living” as one of the diseases suffered by current society and called, however, to face reality with the grace of Jesus.

“A disease very widespread in our time is the tiredness of living: reality seems too complex, heavy, difficult to face. And then we turn off, we numb ourselves, with the illusion that things will be different. all month of July– It is planned to reduce your agenda and your public commitments.

The Pontiff continued with the cycle of catechesis about hope from the stories of the miraculous cures of Jesus. Specifically, he focused on two of them to put them as an example of a “sign of hope”: that of Jairo’s daughter, one of the bosses of the synagogue, who goes to Jesus with humility, begging him to heal his daughter, who is on the verge of death and that of the anonymous woman who has suffered blood losses for twelve years.

To illustrate it, he set the example of the sick girl’s father, the head of the synagogue, that “when they come to tell her that her daughter has died and it is useless to bother the teacher, he still has faith and continues waiting.”

God wakes from death

The Gospel of St. Mark tells how Jesus said “Girl, get up!” And the girl got up and started walking. For the pontiff, that gesture of Jesus “shows us that he not only heals all disease, but also awakens from death.”

“For God, which is eternal life, the death of the body is like a dream. The true death is that of the soul: of this we must be afraid!” He added.

On the other hand, he also claimed the “great courage” of the woman with an uninterrupted flow of blood that despite the “they had condemned to be hidden and isolated” goes out to meet Jesus.

“Sometimes we can also be victims of the judgment of others, who intend to put a dress that is not ours. And then we are wrong and we fail to get out of that,” he explained.

In this way, the Holy Father valued the faith of the hemorrías. “This woman, silent and anonymous, defeats her fears, touching the heart of Jesus with her hands considered impure because of the disease,” he explained to thousands of pilgrims who have gathered – despite the high temperatures in Rome in the Plaza de San Pedro – to listen to his catechesis.

In this way, he insisted that every time we perform “an act of faith addressed to Jesus, a contact with Him is established and immediately his grace comes out of him.”

He also regretted that there are many people who walk on the surface of faith – “without really believing in their power” and “while the heart is elsewhere” while pointed out how “in a secret and real way” grace reaches us and slowly transforms life from within.

Finally, he called to ask: “When our boys are in crisis and have the need for spiritual nutrition, do we know how to give it to him? And how can we do it if we don’t nurture the Gospel?”

And he concluded: “In life there are moments of disappointment and discouragement, and there is also the experience of death. Let’s learn from that woman, from that father: we go to Jesus: He can heal us, he can make us rebirth. He is our hope!”

The general hearing on Wednesday was advanced half an hour, due to the numerous commitments of the Pope’s agenda that – in the morning – will pronounce a catechesis before the bishops and will meet with a group of seminarists of the Diocese of Triveneto, in northern Italy.
