In his message, released on Monday by the press office of the Holy See, Pope Leo XIV warned that “our conscience looks deeply shaken to the increasingly serious ravages suffered by the environment.”
“Only inner conversion makes it possible to change habits”
In this context, he advocated an ecological education that allows to invest the consequences of pollution and climate change.
He pointed out that young people “want to conquer the world not to submit it, but to serve the life that comes from God”, and therefore reminded them that “the spirit of service and a deep relationship with Christ” will allow Christian values to take root in them.
“Only inner conversion makes it possible to change habits and mentalities, which translates into a new way of living in communion with the environment,” he said below.
The Holy Father stressed that the scouts “They can contribute a lot to society with their lifestyle,” and advised them to be “fraternity and peace ambassadors in their surroundings.”
Many of these young people will receive during the encounter the sacrament of confirmation, a “sign of their commitment in the Church” for the Holy Father.
In this sacrament, said the Pontiff, “they receive the Holy Spirit, divine presence that guides, illuminates and comforts the path of faith. I invoke you to invoke him frequently to be filled with his gifts and thanks.”
Later, he remarked that a life of prayer and friendship with God will allow them to “testify to their faith in the world” and be agents “of change and hope in society.”
“Know that each of you is unique in creation, personally loved by the Lord. Do not stop believing in a better world and in the advent of an authentic civilization of love,” said Pope León.
