Pope Leo XIV has sent a congratulatory telegram to Guillermo de Luxembourg, on the day he assumes the great Ducado after the abdication of his father, Enrique.
“On the occasion of the celebrations in honor of the ascent of his real highness to the throne of Luxembourg’s great ducat, I am pleased to send him my sincere congratulations. I one like this to the joy of an entire country rich in ancient and prestigious traditions, deeply rooted in history,” the message begins.

The Pontiff transfers his desire that “his real highness can contribute, in turn, to promote a life based on respect for Christian values that have forged Luxembourg’s identity and thus favor the tireless search for the common good.”
“On this day of joy, I express to his real highness my most cordial consideration, accompanied by my most sincere desire for peace for the future of his country,” says Leo XIV on the telegram, before invoking Guillermo de Luxembourg “the heavenly protection of the Mother of God” and imparting the apostolic blessing, which extends “to all the inhabitants of the great ducat of Luxemburg.”
The transfer of powers from father to son has been carried out gradually since last year and has completed this Friday, when 25 years of reign are closed in which Enrique de Luxembourg was obliged to emulate his uncle Balduino de Belgica.
The Grand Duke Enrique refused to sanction the Euthanasia law alleging reasons for conscience, such as the Belgian monarch, today in the process of beatification, made in 1990.
