Pope Leo XIV asks the rulers to make gestures of distension and dialogue

After celebrating in the Plaza de San Pedro the Mass of Pentecost, which coincided with the jubilee of the movements, associations and new communities, Pope Leo XIV asked the rulers “the value of making gestures of distension and dialogue.”

“That the Spirit of Risen Christ opens reconciliation paths wherever there is war; illuminates the rulers and give them the value of making gestures of distension and dialogue,” said the pontiff before singing Regina Coeli this Sunday.

His call for peace comes a little days after during a telephone conversation with the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, the first one that both maintained since his election as Pope, asked him precisely to make “a gesture that favors peace” in Ukraine.

The Pontiff thus invoked the intercession of the Virgin Mary to grant the world the “gift of peace.” “First of all, peace in hearts: only a peaceful heart can spread peace in the family, in society, in international relations,” he said.
