Pope Leo XIV asks La Paz in Gaza

Pope Leo XIV renewed his call to allow the entry of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip and firmly denounced that it is the most innocent who carry the price of war.

At the end of his first general hearing, held on Wednesday, May 21 in the Plaza de San Pedro, the Pontiff regretted that “the situation in Gaza is increasingly worrying.”

“I renew my sense of calling to allow dignified humanitarian aid and to put an end to hostility, whose heartbreaking price is paid by children, elders and sick people,” said Leo XIV.

During the Mass at the beginning of his pontificate on May 18, the Holy Father also spoke in favor of peace in the region.

Before the leaders of more than 150 countries in the world, the Pope denounced that in Gaza “children, families, surviving elders have been reduced to hunger.”

This Wednesday also recalled Pope Francis with special gratitude and mentioned that a month ago – on April 21 – “he returned to the Father’s House.”

Also, during his greeting to the faithful of Portuguese language, Pope Leo XIV reiterated the invitation of the Virgin Mary during the month of May:

“In this month Mariano, I would like to reiterate the invitation of the Virgin of Fatima: Pray the Rosary every day for peace. Next to Mary, we ask that men not close to this gift of God and disarm their hearts,” the Holy Father appealed.
