Fr. Billeri, ordered in 2016, continued his studies in Rome, where he obtained a doctorate in Canon Law. He has served as a judge in the Ecclesiastical Court of Toscana, defender of the link in the diocesan courts of San Miniato and Volterra, master of episcopal ceremonies and secretary of the Presbyteral Council.

Until now he served as a parish vicar in the parish of the Saints Esteban and Martín in San Miniato Basso.

In a statement, Bishop Plesi described the appointment as “a great gift” for the diocese. He remembered having received a Pope’s personal call the previous week asking for his consent to free Fr. Billeri for this new mission.

“I felt joy and also vertigo, thinking that Father Marco will now be in the heart of the Church of Christ,” said the bishop and invited the faithful to pray for Billeri and the diocese, pointing out that a closer relationship with the Pope and with the universal church should strengthen the awareness of his own mission.
