Pope Francis visited on Saturday, April 12, the Basilica of Santa María la Mayor to pray for a few minutes in front of the image of Salus Populi Romani, being one of his recent public activities after weeks of hospitalization.
In a message released by the Vatican press office, it was indicated that “this afternoon, Pope Francis arrived at the Basilica of Santa María la Mayor and, on the eve of Ramos Sunday and Holy Week, he stopped to pray before the icon of the Virgin, Salus Populi Romani.”

On March 23 the Pontiff returned to the Vatican after being hospitalized in the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic, in Rome, because of bilateral pneumonia. Since then he must comply with the period of convalescence in his residence of the Santa Marta house.
After being discharged, Pope Francis has appeared in the Plaza de San Pedro on Sunday, April 6 to participate in the jubilee of the sick and on Thursday 10 in the Basilica of San Pedro, without his usual White or Solido Sotana, wearing with dark pants and a shirt covered by a striped blanket.
