On Tuesday, April 2, 7 humanitarian workers from the NGO “World Central Kitchen”, founded by Spanish chef José Andrés, were killed in Gaza during an Israeli airstrike.
“I pray for them and their families and renew the call for the exhausted and suffering civilian population to be allowed access to humanitarian aid and for the hostages to be released quickly,” said the Holy Father.
Furthermore, he urged that every “irresponsible attempt to prolong the conflict in the region” be avoided and called for the immediate cessation of “this and other wars, which continue to bring death and suffering, in so many parts of the world.”
“Let us pray and work without tiring so that the weapons cease and peace returns,” Pope Francis asked.
