Pope Francis responds well to therapy: Sams slight improvement

Pope Francis’s clinical conditions in recent days have remained stable and, consequently, reflect a good response to therapy, the Vatican said Saturday.

Therefore, “a gradual and slight improvement is observed,” said the press office of the Holy See in the last update on the health status of the Pontiff, admitted to the Gemelli Hospital since February 14.

The medical part of this March 8 confirms that Pope Francis continues without a fever and that they have also improved “the gaseous exchanges.”

Likewise, the hematochemical analysis – which measure different substances of the blood – and the hemograms – existing specific that analyzes the cellular components of the blood – remain stable.

Despite this improvement, doctors maintain the reserved prognosis with the aim of registering these first signs of improvement in the next few days.

This hopeful medical part of Pope Francis arrives after five consecutive days of stability after the two acute respiratory crises he suffered last Monday.

Since then, the Holy Father has not suffered any episode of crisis again and his improvement has been perceived more clearly as the week has been advancing. On Wednesday the Vatican reported that he spent much of the day sitting in an armchair and that he also participated in the rite of the ashes.

On Thursday, he surprised the crowd gathered in the Plaza de San Pedro praying for his health with a brief but emotional audio message from the hospital.

During these days he has received non -invasive mechanical ventilation at night and during the day he has been administered high flow oxygen therapy.
