According to the Holy See Press Office, after speaking with the Pontiff, the president met with the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and with Bishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and the International organizations.
“During the discussions at the Secretariat of State, satisfaction was expressed for the good relations between Ecuador and the Holy See, and the positive collaboration between the Church and the State was underlined,” the Vatican statement reads.
Likewise, during the course of the conversation, the socioeconomic situation was discussed, with special reference to youth employment, as well as the issue of public safety and immigrants in the Ecuadorian country.
