Pope Francis receives Cardinal Parolin at the hospital to inform himself of some situations in the world

The Secretary of State of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, visited with the substitute for general affairs, the archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, to Pope Francis at the Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital in Rome, where he remains admitted with a bilateral pneumonia for 24 days.

As reported by the Vatican Press Office, this meeting, which took place in the room of the tenth floor of the health center where the Pontiff continues to receive antibiotic therapy to combat the infection that affects its lungs, served, “among other issues, to update it on some situations of the Church and the world.”

The pontiff did not receive visits for a week, which can be framed in the “slight improvement” that doctors found in the last medical bulletin on Saturday afternoon.

In fact, the last time these two Vatican officials were at the Gemelli was last Sunday.

This is the third time that Cardinal Parolin and Archbishop Peña Parra visit the Pontiff, who also received the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, on February 19, five days after his hospitalization.

The Purpurado Italiano was in charge of replacing the Pontiff on March 3 during the visit to the Vatican of the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Nausėda gypsies. This has been the only visit of a head of state while Pope Francis has been in the hospital.

During these weeks of convalescence, despite the complexity of its clinical status, the Pontiff has continued working.

Practically daily, the Holy See has announced new appointments of bishops, the promulgation of new saints and has even informed about the creation of a new organism with which Pope Francis seeks to raise funds to deal with the deficit in the Vatican accounts. These are decisions that, despite his illness, only he can take.

The Vatican press room has also reported that the Holy Father, in addition to continuing with antibiotic therapies prescribed by doctors, has continued with respiratory and motor physiotherapy exercises throughout the morning.

As reported in recent days, at night Pope Francis sleeps with a non -invasive mechanical ventilation mask and, during the day, breathes with the help of nasal cannulas that provide high flow oxygen.

The doctors who attend it have specified in the last hours that the pontiff is responding well to these therapies. In any case, Pope Francis will remain admitted several more days and will not participate in the spiritual exercises of the Roman curia by Lent, which will be developed “in communion” with him from the Paul VI classroom of the Vatican until March 14.

Last Thursday the Holy Father spread a brief and emotional audio message in which he thanked those who gather every night to pray the rosary for his health in the Plaza de San Pedro.
