Pope Francis today expressed his “concern and pain” over “the serious crisis affecting Haiti and the violent episodes that have occurred in recent days.”
At the conclusion of the Sunday Angelus prayer in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican, the Pope referred to “the violent episodes that have occurred in recent days” in Haiti, and assured that he is “close to the Church and the beloved Haitian people, who since He has been suffering a lot for years.”
Violence has reached new critical points in recent weeks in Haiti. On Sunday, March 3, the country’s government declared a state of emergency for 72 hours, after criminal groups took over the country’s two largest prisons, releasing the inmates.
