Following the death on Monday, April 15, of Cardinal Pedro Rubiano Sáenz, Archbishop Emeritus of Bogotá (Colombia), Pope Francis wrote a telegram of condolences addressed to Cardinal Luis José Rueda Aparicio, current Archbishop of the Colombian capital.
The Holy Father claims to have received the “sad news” of the death of the 91-year-old cardinal and expresses his condolences “to all the members of that Particular Church, to the family members and to all those participating in the funeral rite.”
“While I offer suffrages for the eternal rest of this selfless pastor who with his dedication and work offered his life for the good of the Church, I entrust him to the maternal intercession of the Virgin of Chiquinquirá,” reads the telegram distributed from the Office.
