At 9:30 in the morning, local time, Pope Francis will leave Giudecca Island and travel by motorboat to the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, where a large group of young people from Venice and the diocese of Veneto. Pope Francis is also scheduled to give a speech.
Accompanied by a group of young people, the Pontiff will travel from the basilica to St. Mark’s Square, crossing the boat bridge that connects both places. There he will be received by the president of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, the prefect of Venice, Darco Pellos and the mayor of the city, Luigi Brugnaro.
The Holy Mass presided over by Pope Francis will be celebrated in the iconic Venetian square. At the end of the celebration, the Pontiff will lead the recitation of the Regina Coeli before entering the temple dedicated to Saint Mark to venerate the evangelist’s relics privately.
