The words of the Lord, he continued, “are like honey, they give pleasure to life, they arouse the sweetness of God, they nourish the soul, they drive away fear, they conquer loneliness. Just as they moved those disciples to leave the repetitiveness of a life made of boats and nets, so in us they will renew faith, purifying it and freeing it from so many dross, taking it back to the origins, to the genuine source that springs from the Gospel.” .
What place does the Bible, the Word of God, have in my life?
“The Sunday of the Word of God helps us return with joy to the sources of faith, which is born from listening to Jesus, the Word of the living God. As words are constantly said and read about the Church, may He help us rediscover the Word of life that resonates in the Church. Otherwise we will end up talking more about ourselves than about Him; and many times our thoughts and our problems will remain at the center, instead of Christ with his Word,” Pope Francis stressed.
The Holy Father then asked: “What place do I reserve for the Word of God in the place where I live? There will be books, newspapers, televisions, telephones, but where is the Bible? In my room, do I have the Gospel within reach? Do I read it every day to guide me on the path of life? Do I have a small copy of the Gospel in my bag to read?”
