Pope Francis has expressed his deep concern for the devastating forest fires that have affected several regions of South Korea, with more than 33,000 hectares that have been burned or continued burning for almost a week.
Through a telegram sent as usual in these cases in his name by the Cardinal Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin, the Pontiff has expressed his condolences to “the families of the victims and has entrusted the souls of the deceased to the mercy of God.”

In the message, the Holy Father has also assured his prayers “for the injured and for all those who participate in the emergency work, especially firefighters and rescue teams who work to contain the flames and attend those affected.”
Finally, Pope Francis has invoked the entire population affected “the divine blessing of comfort, healing and strength,” reaffirming its spiritual closeness in this difficult time for the Korean people.
