This Sunday, June 16, Pope Francis encouraged the Catholic faithful to sow “with confidence” and patience “the Word of God” wherever they live, following the example of the Lord.
In his words prior to praying the Sunday Angelus, from the balcony of the Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father recalled that “today the Gospel of the liturgy speaks to us about the Kingdom of God through the image of the seed,” highlighting that “several times “Jesus uses this similarity and today he does so by inviting us to reflect in particular on an important attitude: confident waiting.”

“In sowing, no matter how good and abundant the seed that the farmer spreads and no matter how well he prepares the land, the plants do not sprout immediately: it takes time! “Patience is needed,” the Pope stressed, indicating that “for this reason, it is necessary that after sowing one knows how to wait with confidence, to allow the seeds to open at the right moment and the sprouts to germinate in the earth and grow. strong enough to ensure, in the end, an abundant harvest.”
“Under the earth the miracle is already taking place, there is enormous development, but it is
invisible, patience is needed and, in the meantime, it is necessary to continue taking care of the farmland, watering it and keeping it clean, even though on the surface it seems that nothing is happening.
The Holy Father pointed out that “the Kingdom of God is also like this,” because “the Lord deposits in us the seeds of His Word and His grace, good seeds, er, abundant seeds, and then, without ceasing to accompany us, He waits with patience”.
“And this is because he wants nothing to be lost in his field, for everything to reach full maturity,” he highlighted.
By acting like this, he specified, “the Lord gives us an example: he also teaches us to sow with
trust the Gospel wherever we are and then wait for the seed planted to grow and bear fruit in us and in others, without becoming discouraged and without ceasing to support and help each other.”
Toward the end of his message, Pope Francis encouraged the faithful to ask themselves: “Do I confidently sow the Word of God in the environments in which I live? Am I patient when it comes to waiting, or do I get discouraged because I don’t see results immediately? And, do I know how to entrust everything serenely to the Lord, while giving my best to announce the Gospel?”
“May the Virgin Mary, who welcomed and made the seed of the Word grow within her, help us to be generous and confident sowers of the Gospel,” he concluded.
