Pope Francis has asked that the discovery of the role of women in the Church be done “without pressure or tears”, during a meeting with the participants in the International Interuniversity Congress Women in the Church: architects of humanity which takes place at the University of Santa Cruz this Thursday and Friday.
As in most of his interventions in recent days, Pope Francis has handed over the reading of his intervention to a collaborator due to his state of health. On this occasion the responsibility has fallen on Fr. Pierluigi Girolli, who already performed the same function during the General Audience this Wednesday.
In reference to women, Pope Francis points out that “the Church needs them, because the Church is a woman: she is a daughter, wife and mother, and who better than a woman to reveal her face to us?” In this sense, she has raised a request: “Let us help each other, without pressure or tears, but with attentive discernment, docile to the voice of the Holy Spirit and faithful in communion, to find adequate paths so that the greatness and role of women be more valued in the People of God.”
