Pope Francis asks to pray for political leaders in August 2024

Pope Francis’ prayer intention for the month of August 2024 is for political leaders around the world.

In August, the Holy Father invites us to pray “so that political leaders are at the service of their people” and work for integral human development and the common good.

Likewise, the Pontiff urges us to pray so that those in power take care of “those who have lost their jobs” and give “priority to the poorest.”

The Pope’s World Prayer Network Every month of the year, it publishes a video in which the Holy Father encourages the faithful to pray for a special intention.

In the video for the month of August, Pope Francis lamented that “today politics does not have a good reputation: corruption, scandals, removed from people’s daily lives.”

“But can we move towards universal brotherhood without good politics? No. As Paul VI said, politics is one of the highest forms of charity, because it seeks the common good,” he then recalled.

Along these lines, he explained that he speaks “about POLITICS in capital letters, not politicking. “I’m talking about politics that listens to reality, that is at the service of the poor, not that which is locked in large buildings with long corridors.”

I am talking about politics, the Pontiff continued, “who cares about the unemployed and knows very well how sad a Sunday can be when Monday is just another day without being able to go to work.”

“If we see it this way, politics is much nobler than it appears. Let us thank the many politicians who carry out their task with a desire to serve, not power, for all their efforts for the common good,” he concluded.
