Pope Francis approves Canonization of Carmen Rendiles, First Santa de Venezuela

First Venezuelan Santa

On March 28, the Holy Father approved the second miracle attributed to the intercession of the Beata María del Monte Carmelo, known as Carmen Elena Rendíles Martínez, founder of the Congregation of the Servants of Jesus.

Carmen Rendiles Martínez was born in 1903 in Caracas (Venezuela). In 1927 he entered the French congregation of the Servants of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

He distinguished himself by his immense goodness and wise prudence. In the 50s he guided the process of re -founding his congregation, until in 1965 the Holy See approved the new Venezuelan Foundation by calling it “Servants of Jesus.”

Mother Carmen died in 1977 and on December 21, 2017, Pope Francis recognized the authenticity of a miracle made by her intercession, which occurred in Caracas on July 18, 2003, verifying the instant healing of a serious injury to the right arm of a Venezuelan doctor. It was beatified in the Venezuelan capital on June 17, 2018.

A new Blessed in Italy

The Holy Father has also approved the miracle attributed to the intercession of the venerable servant of God Carmelo de Palma, diocesan priest and spiritual director known as “the hero of the confessional.”

He was born on January 27, 1876 in Bari (Italy) and died in the same city on August 24, 1961. When giving green light to the miracle, the Palma Carmel will be declared Blessed.

In addition, the Pontiff has authorized the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Giuseppe Antonio Maria Ibiapina, also a diocesan priest, so he will be declared venerable.

Ibiapina was born on August 5, 1806 in Sobral (Brazil) and died on February 18, 1883 in Arara (Brazil).

New saints in Türkiye and Papua New Guinea

Likewise, Pope Francis has approved the favorable votes of the ordinary session of the cardinals and bishops for the canonization of Mons. Ignatius Choukrallah Maloyan, Armenian Armenian Catholic armen Armenian genocide.

He was born on April 15, 1869 in Mardin (Türkiye) and died on June 11, 1915 in Kara-Küprü (Türkiye).

The canonization date of these future saints will be decided in the next sessionin which the next canonizations of the Venezuelan José Gregorio Hernández and the Italian Bartolo Long will also be treated.

Last February, Pope Francis convened this town hall from the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, during his hospital admission of 38 days. The exact date of its celebration has not yet been communicated.
