Pope Francis has appointed Mons. Bernardito Auza as Apostolic Nuncio before the European Union. Until now, he served in the same position in Spain and Andorra.
Born in Talibon, the Philippines, in 1959, was Ordered priest In 1985 and is a doctor in Sacred Theology. He entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See in 1990, working on the nunciatures of Madagascar, Bulgaria and Albania, in addition to the Secretary of State and the representation before the UN in New York.

In 2008, he was named Nuncio in Haiti. As of 2014, he assumed as a permanent observer of the Holy See before the United Nations (UN) and the Organization of American States (OAS), participating in the adoption of key agreements such as the 2030 Agenda, the Paris Agreement and the Treaty on Nuclear Weapons. During his mission, he organized numerous conferences on issues such as human trafficking, religious persecution and the right to life.
As a permanent observer before the UN, Archbishop Auza also received Pope Francis at the United Nations on September 25, 2015.
