Pope Francis appointed the Augustinian priest Wilder Alberto Vásquez Saldaña Nuevo Prelate Bishop of Chuquibambilla, in the Andes of Southern Peru.
The prelature of Chuquibambilla comprises three provinces of the Apurímac region: Antabamba, Cotabambas and Grau, located in the Peruvian South Andean, and that were part of the Diocese of Abancay.

When giving the news, the Federation of Agustinos of the Vicariates of Peru (FAVPE) —Which groups the vicariates of Iquitos in the Amazon, San Agustín de Apurímac, in the Andes; and San Juan de Sahagún de Chulucanas, in the North Peruvian – “thanks, congratulates and pray for the new Augustinian bishop in our country.”
The Prelature of Chuquibambilla was created on April 26, 1968 by Pope St. Paul VI and was delivered to the pastoral care of the Italian Augustinian priests. It is suffragan of the Archdiocese of Cusco.
The elected bishop, Mons. Wilder Alberto Vásquez Saldaña, was born on December 21, 1974 in La Encañada, department of Cajamarca, in the Andean North of Peru.
According to the press office of the Vaticanentered the order of San Agustín and conducted his studies of philosophy and theology at the San Carlos and San Marcelo Seminary of the Archdiocese of Trujillo.
He was ordained a priest on April 29, 2006.
He has played, among others, the following positions: Parish Vicar of San José Obrero (2007-2008); Parish priest of San Isidro de Morropón (2011-2013) and San Agustín de la Matanza (2014); Superior of the Agustinian International Novitiate Nuestra Señora de Gracia in La Enchanted of Villa, Chorrillos, in Lima; and first parish priest of San Agustín in La Enchanted of Villa (2023).
Since 2024 he is the promoter of the Santísima Cruz de Chulucanas Parish Educational Institution, in the department of Piura; and Parish Vicar of San José Obrero. During two consecutive periods he was an advisor to the Vicaría de San Juan de Sahagún in Chulucanas.
