Pope Francis appoints a new bishop for the diocese of San Juan Bautista de las Misiones, Paraguay

Who is Mons. Usmar López Benítez?

Mons. López Benítez was born on June 14, 1975 in Maciel, department of Caazapá, to southern Paraguay. In 1991 he began his formation at the Minor Seminar of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Bétharram. Three years later he continued his studies at the National Major Seminar.

He was ordained a priest on December 22, 2001, incardinated to the Diocese of Carapeguá. He has obtained a master’s degree in psychological-spiritual accompaniment at the Alberto Hurtado University of Santiago de Chile, in addition to a diploma in the biblical animation of pastoral at the Catholic University Our Lady of the Assumption.
