“Authentic development,” the Pontiff continued, “must be global, shared by all nations and in all parts of the world, or it will regress even in areas marked until now by constant progress.”
Later, the Holy Father cast his gaze on the objectives of world peace and highlighted the importance of “intergovernmental structures being able to effectively exercise their functions of control and guidance in the economic sector since the achievement of the common good is an objective outside of the reach of individual states, even dominant ones in terms of power, wealth and political strength.”
“International organizations also have the challenge of guaranteeing the achievement of that equality that is the basis of the right of everyone to participate in the process of full development, with due respect for legitimate differences,” he noted.
Finally, he once again urged the forum participants to be aware of their moral responsibility “in the fight against poverty, the achievement of comprehensive development for all our brothers and the search for peaceful coexistence between peoples.”
