The Government of Peru approved on May 12 a law that prohibits the sexualization of minors in the media and prohibits the entry and use of public baths to people whose biological sex does not coincide with that destined by the establishment.
The norm, which is entitled “Law that strengthens the right to sexual indemnity of children and adolescents”, Seeks to avoid exposure to messages or situations that may affect their psychosocial and sexual development, and has generated both support and controversy for its concrete measures against the imposition of gender ideology in public spaces.

Congressman Alejandro Muñante, of popular renewal and author of the bill, said Aci Prensa that promulgation is “great news” for the country.
“We are very satisfied because we believe that Mark a milestone in the defense of childhood In Peru. With this rule, the country is positioned at the forefront of the protection of life, childhood and dignity of our children, ”he said on May 14.
The congressman said that, within the provisions he brings, “there are three that are extremely important and that seek to safeguard the indemnity of children and adolescents.”
One of the most debated aspects has been the use of public baths. “It is established that public baths must be used according to biological sex. This eliminates the so -called ‘inclusive baths’; they should no longer exist,” said Muñante.

“And if any company wanted to implement them, it would have to do it with their own resources and build an additional one to which women and adolescents use,” he added.
What establishes Law No. 32331?
The new law declares as a fundamental principle the right to sexual indemnity of minorsdefined as protection against any influence, stimulus or interference that affects its development until sufficient maturity to exercise its sexual freedom autonomously.
These are its main provisions:
1. Prohibition of child sexualization in media and advertising
According to the law, the representation of minors is prohibited in attitudes, clothing or contexts with sexual connotation, as well as their exploitation for commercial or entertainment purposes. The media must adopt self -regulation policies and create complaint mechanisms supervised by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
2. Use of public baths according to biological sex
The norm prohibits the entry and use of public health services to people whose biological sex does not coincide with that established for these spaces, except in exceptional cases such as medical care, assistance to minors or people with disabilities.
3. Sanction of obscene exhibitions against minors
Article 183 of the Criminal Code is modified to impose sentences of 4 to 6 years in jail to those who perform obscene acts in the presence of minors. The penalty is aggravated if the author is a public, teacher or staff of educational institutions, and an disqualification sanction is added.
State obligations
The ministries of women, education and the Public Ministry must establish Interinstitutional action protocols for the attention of abuse or exposure to inadequate sexual content.
The norm also requires public use establishments to guarantee differentiated baths, clear signage and training of personnel on the rights of children and adolescent.
