In the solemnity of Pentecost, which is celebrated this Sunday, Catholics have the possibility of obtaining a plenary indulgence, both for oneself and for a soul of purgatory.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains that purgatory is a “final purification” that all those who die in the grace and friendship of God “must come to the sky but that they are” imperfectly purified, although they are sure of their eternal salvation. “

What is a plenary indulgence?
The Catholic Encyclopedia (EC) Explain that “by plenary indulgence, the remission of all the temporary penalty deserved by sin is understood, so that no other atonement in purgatory is necessary.”
Briefly and broadly, it can be said that plenary indulgence allows the soul to “return” to the state in which he was when the person was baptized. If a person dies after obtaining it, it can be said that the sky would have insured.
An indulgence, the EC requires, “it is not a permit to sin, nor a forgiveness for future sins: neither of these two things can be granted by any power.”
“It is not forgiveness of the guilt of sin,” because sin requires “he has already been forgiven before.”
“On the contrary, it means a more complete satisfaction of the debt that the sinner has before God,” he says.
“In the sacrament of penance, the fault of sin is removed and, together with it, also the eternal penalty deserved by it; but the temporal punishment required by divine justice remains, and this requirement must be satisfied in this life or in future life, that is, in purgatory,” he adds.
“Indulgence offers the repentant sinner the possibility of paying off or lightening this debt during your life on earth,” he says.
The souls of purgatory hope to enjoy God’s presence in heaven. To help them in that purification process, a Catholic can take the following steps:
-
Having the firm intention not to sin again, even venially.
-
Sacramentally confess all sins.
-
Receive the Eucharist.
-
Pray for the Pope’s intentions.
-
Pray or sing the anthem Veni Creator Spiritus during the solemnity of Pentecost.

Come, creative spirit,
Visit the souls of your trusts
And full of divine grace hearts,
that you created yourself.
You are our dildo,
Don of God Most High,
living source, fire, charity
and spiritual anointing.
You spill on us the seven gifts;
You, the finger of the hand of God;
You, the Father’s fiance;
You, who put on our lips
The treasures of your word.
Light our senses with your light;
Infuse your love in our hearts;
And with your perpetual help,
Strengthens our weak flesh.
Take away the enemy from us,
Give us peace soon,
Be our guide yourself,
and put under your direction,
We will avoid everything harmful.
For you let’s know the father,
and also the son;
And that in you, spirit of entrambos,
