Parish emulates conquest of Jericho surrounding his city with praying during the night

The Parish of San Leandro in the Archdiocese of Valencia (Spain), performs for the second year “The Seventh Turn”, an initiative of night prayer to pray the Rosary during the night in a walk that surrounds the city, emulating the conquest of Jericho.

This Wednesday, October 8, the faithful of this parish located near the Mestalla stadium, in the city of Valencia, will tour 21 kilometers from 23:00 local time until dawn, praying for the evangelization of the city and for its own conversion.

“We wish to surround Valencia in prayer asking the Lord to collapse the ‘walls’ that are in us and in the hearts of many of our brothers. We will ask that those barriers fall and that the love and light of Christ can enter,” they explain in the website of the parish.

This initiative has its inspiration in Joshua’s book, the first of the historical collected in the Bible after the Pentateuch. In his sixth chapter it is narrated how God indicates to the successor of Moses, at the head of the tribes of Israel, how he has to proceed in the conquest of Jericho:

“All the combatants, surround the city, turning around; so for six days. Seven priests will take seven ram horn tubes in front of the ark. The seventh day, you will take seven laps to the city and the priests will touch the tubes. When the ram’s horn sounds and hear the sound of the trunk the city ”.

The way of “touching the trumpets” on this occasion is through the prayer of the rosary, inspired by the apostolic exhortation of Pope Francis, Gospel joywhere it is said of the Virgin Mary: “She is the one who knows how to transform a cave of animals in the house of Jesus.
