The Catholic Church celebrates this August 15 the solemnity of the assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the heavens, and Paraguay already prepares the 2025 patron saint festivities in honor of its patron saint, Our Lady of the Assumption.

The ninth of Our Lady of the Assumption began on August 6 with the procession of the image of the Virgin from her oratory to the cathedral and continued with the celebration of the Mass, which was attended by members of the Dean, movements and pastoral.
Until August 15, the rosary will be prayed and daily masses will be held, chaired by bishops of the different dioceses, and transmitted by the social networks of the archbishopric.
On Sunday, August 10, the Archdiocesan Jubilee of Youth, with a pilgrimage from the National Sanctuary Our Lady of Perpetual Socorro to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption will be held.
On Thursday 14, the eve of solemnity, the activities will begin with the rosary of the vespers sung, and the Eucharist is finished, the serenade will be held to Our Lady of the Assumption with the orchestra “Sounds of Paraqvaria”.
The central celebrations of the masses from Monday to Saturday are at 7:00 p.m., while the Sunday celebrations are at the schedules of 11:00 and 7:00 p.m.
On Friday 15, Central Fiesta, the day will begin at 8:00 am with a procession with the image of Our Lady of the Assumption, Patroness of Paraguay and Marisala del Army, which will depart from Puerto Montevideo (Montevideo Street – Río Blanco and Costanera Avenue) and will go to the Cathedral.
The Eucharistic celebration of the solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary will be at 09:00 hours. At the end of the Mass, the image of Our Lady of the Assumption will be made to its Oratory.
At 11:00 hours, the pilgrim image of Our Lady of the Assumption will be transferred in procession to the Metropolitan Seminary, escorted by the Association of Jinetes del Paraguay.
The celebrations will culminate with shows, folk festival, typical meals, within the framework of the “Hape Patron Party” in the Metropolitan Seminary.
History of devotion and patronage of the Virgin on Paraguay
On August 15, 1537 Juan de Salazar de Espinosa, a Spanish conqueror, founded the fort with the name of “Our Lady of the Assumption” and in that fort was enthroned “the conqueror” under the invocation of “Our Lady of the Assumption”, giving rise to the current city of Asunción, known as “Mother of Cities.”
In 1950, Pope Pius XII established the dogma of the assumption of the blessed Virgin Mary, whose solemnity is celebrated every August 15.
A year later, the National Government and the Episcopal Conference of Paraguay asked the Pope to proclaim the Virgen de la Asunción as Patroness of the Republic of Paraguay and the Nation’s Armed Forces.
On July 13, 1951, the Beatísima Virgin Mary of the Assumption to heaven was declared a main celestial patron saint before God, from the entire Republic of Paraguay and the Nation’s Armed Forces.
