On the 24th, little Bernarda tells everything that happened to the Lady, who smiled at her again. Then, She asks Bernadette again to pray for sinners with the voice of: “Penance, penance, penance!… Pray to God for sinners! Kiss the earth in penance for sinners!” Bernadette did what the Virgin had just asked of her and invited the people who were close to her at that moment to join her in prayer.
On February 25, Bernadette, at the direction of the Mother of God, dug the bottom of the grotto and water began to flow. Immediately afterwards, the Lady orders him to drink, wash his feet in the fountain that had been formed, and eat a little grass.
Confidence in the midst of illness
On February 26, the first cure occurs. A worker named Bourriete, who had lost the vision in his left eye, prays and rubs his damaged eye with the water from the fountain. Suddenly, the man began to shout with joy when he realized that he had regained his sight. On the 27th the Virgin does not appear. Even so, Bernadette remains in front of the grotto praying for sinners and drinks the water from the spring.
