Every January 21, the Dominican Republic celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Altagracia, patron saint of this beautiful Caribbean nation. The origins of this Marian devotion date back to the beginning of the 16th century.
The picture
The Virgin of Altagracia, also known as “Tatica, la de Higüey”, is a painting that shows the Virgin Mary sweetly contemplating the Child Jesus, while he rests peacefully on the manger. Other elements appear around them that contribute to contemplating in depth the mystery of the incarnation of Jesus.
