On February 23, 1455, 569 years ago, Johannes Gutenberg, the German who revolutionized history with his invention of movable type printing, completed the printing of the Holy Bible.
The printing process of the “42 Line Bible” or “Gutenberg Bible” began in 1450. This monumental work consisted of the Vulgate, a Latin translation widely used by the Catholic Church. It was called the “42-Line Bible” because of the number of lines printed on each page, arranged in two columns.
Thanks to its significant importance and the printing of around 180 copies, this text acquired the status of icon of the beginning of the “age of the printing press.”
