Every October 1, the Church begins the celebration of the month of the Holy Rosary, a prayer loved by many saints throughout history and spread by Saint Dominic de Guzmán, who according to tradition received the rosary from the hands of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Dominicans website points out that “the Rosary is a prayer that we direct together with Mary to praise and thank God for having sent us his Son.”

The followers of Santo Domingo narrate that it was Saint Pius V who “established the way of praying the Rosary.” Three groups of 5 mysteries were established: joyful (infancy of Jesus), painful (Passion of the Lord) and glorious (with the resurrected Christ).
In each mystery, an Our Father, 10 Hail Marys and a Glory Be are prayed, while meditating on a passage from the life of Jesus or the Virgin.
Afterwards, Saint John Paul II introduced 5 new mysteries called luminous, about the public life of the Son of God. This holy pontiff Indian that the Rosary was his favorite prayer.
The Dominicans also remember that in 1573 the Pope Gregory XIII established the feast of the Virgin of the Rosary for the first Sunday in October. But over time it began to be celebrated every 7th of the same month.
On the other hand, in the Marian apparitions most famous, such as Lourdes and Fátima, the visionaries pointed out that the Mother of God insisted a lot on praying the Holy Rosary.
Finally, it is worth remembering that “the Pope Leo XIII (1810-1903), seeing the importance of this prayer, dedicated eleven Encyclicals to it. In the first (1883) he declared October as the month of the Rosary,” the Dominicans indicate.
