San Juan Bosco, or simply Don Bosco, used to say that “our mother grants great favors to which her novena do well.” He always told the young Church says from May 15 to 23.
On one occasion Don Bosco received in the sacristy a man who gave him a alms, asking him to pray for him and to proclaim throughout the world the wonders that God does through his mother.

The man told him that he had a unique four -year -old son who had fallen sick, without hope of healing. He cried a lot and a friend suggested to make a novena to Maria Auxiliadora, with the promise of delivering a donation to the church built under this invocation.
He did so and, in the middle of the novena, his son was out of danger. According to the Salesian tradition, this is the novena that Don Bosco spread:
1. Pray for nine days in a row three Our Father, Hail Marys and Glories with the Jaculatory “Be praised at all times the Blessed Sacrament”, and three salves with the Jaculatory “Mary aid of Christians, pray for us“.
2. Approach the sacraments of reconciliation and the Eucharist.
3. Offer alms or personal work to sustain works of apostolate, preferably those in favor of young people.
