The maintenance and improvement project in lighting systems is already being carried out by the San Pedro factory, an entity that manages the set of works necessary for the architectural and artistic realization of the basilica.
Experts are subjecting the dome drum, the structure that serves as a base, to different tests of functionality and light intensity.
In addition, technical operations are being carried out during the night to verify the intensity of the light, which will also be more calibrated and will be better distributed.
These changes, which will see the light on Sunday, April 20, will allow tourists and pilgrims to value, even more, one of the most famous domes in the world.
Miguel Ángel’s great Renaissance dome was built to guard the remains of San Pedro. In fact, as details Vaticanist Javier Martínez-Brocal in his book The Vatican as they had never told youif a fishing thread was thrown from the central point of the flashlight at its end at its end, “it would be supported just above the sepulcher of the Galilee fisherman.”
The cusp of the imposing dome is 120 meters high and the pilgrims who wish can visit it after ascending for their 537 steps.
