Network Clamor Argentina renews its commitment and asks for more state financing against trafficking

Institutions, movements, pastoral teams and different ecclesial organizations committed in the fight against human trafficking gathered in Córdoba (Argentina) to reflect and continue working together and hope to combat this scourge, in turn demanding greater public financing for the protection and assistance of victims.

With the slogan “Ambassadors of hope: together against trafficking in persons”, from July 31 to August 2, the II Meeting of the Clamor Network was held in Córdoba (Argentina), which brings together the country’s ecclesial institutions that work in the fight against trafficking in persons.

Within that framework, through the contribution of professionals and testimonies of survivors, the participants in the meeting were able to analyze the situation of trafficking, abuse and other forms of modern slavery in the country.

Inspired by the message of Pope Francis, who considered that the trafficking of people denies human dignity and “it is a crime against humanity,” renewed their commitment to act in a network and in an articulated way to combat this scourge.

Among the issues of reflection was “the need for containment and accompaniment to victims and survivors, looking at them in their integrity, addressed from an ecclesial, spiritual, legal and medical perspective necessary,” says the final document.

Likewise, the different institutions of the Church shared their realities and had the contribution of professionals in the field.

During the days of the meeting, they also worked on “ways to accompany both the victims and those who exercise violence, with their eyes on changing dehumanizing patterns.” It also deepened on national and international legislation regarding human trafficking and child exploitation, from a human rights approach.

In conclusion of the meeting, the need for a “articulated collaboration between the different groups that we act in the fight against trafficking” was reached, as well as “being spiritually formed and sustained to accompany, contain and respond to those who suffer from this terrible crime”.

Likewise, the need to “manage resources to carry out our Church mission” was raised because “definanced public policies have left a vacuum in assistance to victims.”

“We see necessary to incorporate educational awareness, prevention in trafficking and abuse of people in our communities; demand the necessary financing to public policies for the protection and assistance to victims and survivors, both in economic, housing, legal and comprehensive health matters; use social networks and media as tools for denunciation and awareness,” they demand from the Red Clamor.

“The hopelessness learned by the victims in pain, can be reversed, because in the words of a survivor: ‘Only with love, he returns home.
