More than 70,000 pilgrims travel to Rome for the jubilee of movements and new communities

More than 70,000 pilgrims from more than 100 countries will participate this weekend, June 7 and 8, in the jubilee of movements, associations and new communities in the Vatican, one of the most significant appointments of the Holy Year of Hope 2025. This has been confirmed by the Dicastery for evangelization in an official statement released on Wednesday.

During two days, the surroundings of the Plaza de San Pedro will become an outdoor scenario of faith and mission, to celebrate the evangelizing action of ecclesial movements and charismatic and missionary communities that, for decades, represent “a living and dynamic expression of evangelization in the world”, as highlighted by the Vatican press release.

It will also be the first big appointment of these ecclesial realities with Pope Leo XIV, who will preside over the vigil of Pentecost on Saturday night in the Plaza de San Pedro, and the solemn mass of Sunday, June 8, at 10:30 am.

Among the movements and confirmed associations include the neocatechumenal road, Catholic Action, Communion and Liberation, the Shalom community, Charis International, Sant’Egidio, Farolari, Rhinenovation Nello Spirito, Opera Di Maria, the Cellule Parrocchiali di Evangelizzazione and many other international realities.

A jubilee marked by the testimony

On Saturday, June 7, the pilgrims will hold the traditional pilgrimage to the holy doors of the four papal basilic from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. From 16:00, the Plaza de San Pedro will host the groups for a multicultural party animated by choirs and testimonies around the world, as a preparation for vigil.

Among the witnesses who will intervene in the “pre-vigilia” include, for example, Hussam Abu Sini, Israeli Arab Cristiano committed to peace initiatives; Aline Minani, director of the La Paz School “Floribert Bwana Chui” in rubber (Democratic Republic of the Congo), dedicated to refugee and vulnerable children; and the marriage Pedro and María Begoña Sánchez, missionaries in Ukraine and parents of 12 children.

From 20:00 (local time), Pope Leo XIV will preside over the Pentecost vigil, which will include the renewal of baptismal promises.

A moment of unity and hope

The great event will conclude on Sunday, June 8 with the Mass of Pentecost at 10:30 (local time), also chaired by the Holy Father. The celebration will be open to all pilgrims who wish without the need for prior entry.

According to the Dicastery for Evangelization, the event represents a visible sign of unity in the diversity of charisms, a reflection of the missionary impulse of the laity in the 21st century and a concrete manifestation of the spirit of hope that guides the jubilee of hope.
