Mons. Ramón Castro Castro: The peace we all want cannot be achieved without God

The bishop of Cuernavaca and president of the Mexican Episcopate Conference (CEM), Mons. Ramón Castro Castro, said that “that peace of the heart that we all want can never be obtained total and stably without God.”

“Eye, we can never get it totally without God. We cannot reach it outside of it,” reiterated the prelate, in the homily of the Mass that presided over May 25 in the Cuernavaca Cathedral.

The prelate recalled at the beginning of his homily The massive walk for peace, convened on Saturday, May 24, and which brought together around 17,000 people in Cuernavaca.

“I would like to start thanking all the people who echoed the invitation. There were Miles, by the grace of God. It was a party atmosphere, a family environment, an environment where there were children, families, elders, sick,” said Mons. Castro Castro.

“Someone asked me: is it worth doing this? Of course, because in the first place he is highlighting that we do not cross the arms in the face of the violence we are living, that every time in place of decreasing, he grows,” he said.

During the 11 years that these walks have been carried out, he said, “it has always clearly stated that we are the majority that we believe in La Paz, which is the minority that causes violence, but that we are not going to get tired of continuing to manifest year after year, while God of life, the need we have to proclaim that we are all constructors of peace.”

Reflecting on the Gospel this Sunday, taken from the Gospel of St. John, the Mexican Prelate pointed out that when Jesus was saying goodbye to his disciples he tells them: “My peace left you, my peace I give them.”

“Ah, but not as the world gives it,” said Mons. Castro Castro. “There is an extraordinary message here for each of us too. What peace is Jesus talking about? It is not of external peace that consists in the absence of wars and conflicts between people and nations, no. Here he speaks of another peace, of the inner peace of the heart, of peace with the person himself, of peace with God.”

The bishop of Cuernavaca stressed below that “this is the fundamental peace without which there is no other peace.”

“Peace does not indicate therefore only what God gives, but also what God is,” he said.

He then said that “Jesus implies what opposes peace, anxiety, embarrassment, fear. That is why he says” His heart is not disturbed. “

“With all this the Gospel is not promising a panacea for the evils, in any way,” said the Mexican prelate, because “we remain exposed to threats, dangers, diseases, difficulties.”

However, he pointed out, Christ “is indicating the remedy. Eye, is indicating the remedy: have faith in God, they also have faith in me. There is the remedy. The remedy is the confidence in God. There is the peace that is being talked about today.”
