The dioceses of Jaca and Huesca, despite being two independent ecclesiastical entities, have been placed under the pastoral guidance of the same Prelate for more than two decades, despite the fact that they belong to different ecclesiastical provinces. Jaca to Pamplona and Huesca to Zaragoza.
Between 2001 and 2003, the then Bishop of Barbastro-Monzón, Mons. Juan José Omella, today Cardinal and Archbishop of Barcelona, served as apostolic administrator.
Between 2003 and 2010, Bishop Jesús Sanz was the residential Bishop of both sees, until his assignment to the Archbishopric of Oviedo, although for just over a year he served as Apostolic Administrator of Huesca and Jaca.
