The secretary for relations with the states of the Holy See, Mons. Paul Richard Gallagher, denounced that the attacks on Christians have intensified in recent years and accused the international community of “diverting the look.”
“The data show that Christians are the most persecuted religious group worldwide, and yet intervention in the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization (UN).

He added: “Christians from all over the world are subject to severe persecution, which includes physical violence, imprisonment, forced displacement and martyrdom.”
The head of the Vatican diplomacy found that more than 360 million Christians live in areas where they experience high levels of persecution or discrimination, “with attacks on churches, homes and communities that have intensified in recent years.”
In his speech before the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization, in New York, the archbishop valued the defense of life against practices such as abortion and euthanasia.
In his speech, he insisted that the right to life, from conception to its natural end, is a “fundamental requirement for the exercise of all other rights”, and condemned “the illegitimacy of all forms of abortion caused and of euthanasia.”
Death culture
The Vatican diplomat criticized what he described as a “culture of death” and called for international resources to go to the protection of life and accompaniment of those who go through difficult situations, so that they can make decisions that affirm life.
In particular, he pointed out the need to “allow mothers to give birth to the child they carry in their belly” and “relieve the burden of human suffering during the disease through adequate health and palliative care.”
The Archbishop also warned about the risks of a conception of freedom discouraged from objective and universal truth: “When freedom ignores even the most obvious evidence of an objective and universal truth, which is the basis of personal and social life, the person ends up submitted to their opinion or subjective and changing interest.”
For Mons. Gallagher, this vision of freedom leads to a “serious distortion” of life in society. “At that time, everything becomes negotiable, even the first of fundamental rights, the right to life,” he said.
The deplorable practice of surrogacy
The representative of the Holy See also addressed the practice of subrogated motherhood, pointing it as another threat to human dignity: “Another issue that endangers the inviolable dignity of the human being by reducing it to mere product is the practice of the so -called subrogated maternity, which represents a serious violation of the dignity of women and the child. The Holy See renews its call to an international prohibition of this deplorable practice.”
Mons, Gallagher also denounced that in a world marked by “technological advances and unprecedented wealth”, there are millions of people who “still without access to basic needs.”
“The persistence of extreme poverty, especially in regions affected by conflicts, climate change and structural inequality, demands immediate and collective action,” said Mons. Gallagher.
Cancellation of external debt
Similarly, Mons. Gallagher made an energetic call to cancel the external debt of the poorest countries, stressing that financial charges “catch nations in poverty and must be canceled as a matter of justice.”
In this context, he stressed that the Holy See urges the international community to “prioritize integral human development in a spirit of solidarity, ensuring that economic policies and development programs place the human person in the center and promote not only material well -being, but also spiritual and social growth”.
In the words of the Vatican diplomat, the poor must be seen “not as a problem, but as people who can become the main builders of the new and more human future for all.”
